How it works
The Conversation
Set aside an evening. Come relaxed. Over 2–3 hours I'll guide you through your story — the moments that shaped you, the things you've never quite found words for. I know how to listen for what matters.
The Writing
Then I go to my workbench. I take everything you gave me, and I write. I don't settle for the first idea. I let your stories resonate — creativity needs time and space, which I gladly take for you — and then I work until a heartfelt first version has taken shape.
The Recording
You hear the first draft. If something isn't quite there, we talk again — focused and brief. Then I record the final version: a professional, studio recording of a song that has never existed before, and never will again for anyone else.
The whole process — from our first conversation to final delivery — takes four to six weeks. I work on one song at a time. Conversations in English or German; songs written in English.
Who I am
I'm Dave McKendry — Irish singer-songwriter, based in Vienna. As a multi-million-streamed songwriter, I write for and collaborate with artists throughout Austria and the world to bring their authentic selves to word and music. I have been professionally recording and releasing music for over two decades.
This work is different from anything else I do. I am your ghostwriter, your translator, your storyteller.

How much does a song cost?
Pricing is agreed on our first call.
How long does the whole process take?
Four to six weeks from our first conversation to the final recording. Exceptions may be agreed to accommodate client needs. I only ever work on one song at a time, so my attention stays complete.
What actually happens in the conversation?
We talk, for two to three hours, over a relaxed video call. There's nothing to prepare and nothing to get right — I guide you through your story, and I know how to listen for what matters. It's the part most people remember long after.
Can we speak in German?
Of course. Conversations happen in English or German, whichever feels more natural to you. The song itself is written in English.
Will you ever share my song?
Never — not publicly, not privately, not as an example for anyone else — unless you explicitly ask me to. Your song belongs completely and exclusively to you.
What if the first draft isn't quite right?
One round of revisions is included, and we talk it through on a short, focused call after you've had time to reflect on the first draft. In practice most songs need no more than a gentle polish — but if yours does, we'll get it there together.
How do I secure a place?
Everything begins with an application to the waiting list. If your application is accepted, we'll have a short call — after which, if it feels like a fit for both of us, your deposit confirms your commission.
Where are you based — can we do this from anywhere?
I'm based in Vienna and where you are based makes no difference at all. I've written for people across the world.
